Update of Indie Author Page

I have been somewhat neglectful of my indie author page. Here are some updates: Linda Cassidy Lewis: An Illusion of Trust. This is the sequel to Brevity of Roses and follows relationships encountered there. Linda MacDonald: A Meeting of a Different Kind. This is a sequel to Meeting Lydia but written from the perspective of other characters – another window on the business of re-vitalising by email, old relationships. Vall Buss: The Silver Spindle. Sci fi written by a scientist flying under a pen name. Cathryn Grant: Cathryn has been on a bit of a roll lately. Her most recent, Last Chance (a suburban ghost story), is just out on Amazon, but there is … Continue reading Update of Indie Author Page

Comic Relief

Every two years in the UK, madness breaks out. We stick on red clown noses, sit in baths of baked beans, and shave our heads. Well, not all of us, obviously, but enough to prompt the rest of us to cough up cash to help disadvantaged people here and abroad.  Comic Relief is the uncontained, arsey version of Children in Need and even our senior politicians feel obliged to take part. My bit is easy – I’m asking you to flex your muscles while I sit here and wait. There are eleven comments on my little bit of … Continue reading Comic Relief

All the Birthdays

‘All the Birthdays’ is my entry for this year’s Lascaux flash competition. Submissions will start appearing on March 6th so if you fancy a jolly good wallow in loads of quick reads, or indeed popping in a bit of your own flash, that’s the place to go. ‘Doomcha Doof‘ was my 2012 entry and seemed to be judged pretty but baffling. Or maybe just pretty baffling. I’ve aimed this time for more clarity but will settle for better quality bafflement as a good second!   Continue reading All the Birthdays

Holocaust Day and people with disabilities

Holocaust Day: among the very many atrocities committed by the Nazis up to and including World War II, thousands of people with disabilities were murdered in the interests of eliminating ‘incurable illness’. They called it euthanasia and it is almost certainly still happening somewhere in the world – perhaps so quietly and one by one that no one notices. Let’s try to notice, please. http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007683 Continue reading Holocaust Day and people with disabilities

Good Question

Good Question is a technique that supports professionals in assessing people for decisional capacity, in line with the UK Mental Capacity Act (2005) and the US framework for legal capacity. The website is not fully stocked yet but if you Google it, it will do its best to say hello. There’s work in progress to put prompts on an app for your Smartphone too – how handy is that? More as it bubbles to the surface. Continue reading Good Question

Blue Bell Hotel

It is a while since I wrote a review about the Blue Bell Hotel in Burton Agnes but I still have visitors whose search terms feature Alex Polizzi – or occasionally her legs – and I am reminded that it is probably time for an update. My first review was not wholly complimentary although there was hope for movement in the right direction. If nothing else, the hotel was the real deal when it came to customer service, it was just that they were able to demonstrate their absolute willingness to oblige more often when putting something right than when getting it right in the first place. We have stayed there since and it is fair to say it has had its ups and downs … Continue reading Blue Bell Hotel

Christmas lights and a world tour

The lights only twinkle in the powerpoint show which WordPress won’t let me embed, and the tour is virtual but hey! In my other life I have just retired after 40-odd years in public health services so I have been tracing some footprints in what has become a trilogy in four parts. They go So long and thanks for …, After the bedpan years, My dad’s gone to Mars, and So where was I …? Whatever you celebrate at this time of year, I wish you the very best of company, comfort, and contentment for it, and a sizzlingly inspirational 2013/5773/1434/wibbly wobbly yeary weary … Continue reading Christmas lights and a world tour
