    1. I don’t ‘know’ as such but I can repeat the gist of an explanation by a vulcanologist I heard on TV last night. He said it was caused by the dynamics of moisture and particles in the air that generate multiple electrical charges and this gives rise to lightning. I’m not a huge fan of random electrical discharges of this kind if they’re over my house but dancing around an active volcano where they can do no harm, I’m happy to call them wonderful!
